Night Run

A few words to help anyone thinking of bringing a locomotive to the night run. The night run is

Lighting

You will need two types of lighting:

  1. A red rear light for your train. A steady light is preferred, not flashing, and it must be fixed to the rear of the last vehicle. For the raised track it must be mounted above rail height, ie not on a footrest.

  2. A light so you can see the cab controls and, for steam locomotives, the water gauge. This could be fixed in the rear of the cab shining forwards onto the backhead or one of the small lights fitted with a strap for you to wear on your head.

Clothing

It can get pretty chilly as the evening progresses and, sitting behind a loco you're not moving about to warm up. It's worth bringing an extra pullover or jacket.
