I received an e-mail from member Nick Ruddick in the US recently:
GMES members might be interested in the pictures I have put on my website of a trip from Oceanside to Los Angles for dinner and the return afterwards. It is the first time I have been on a double decker train. I know that Southern Region experimented some time ago (1949-1971) but with the UK loading gauge it was not a success. Double Deckers.
The most fun I have had for a long time. The host was the guy dressed as a conductor and he took 82 of us on this trip and gave us all dinner at Union Station. The two young ladies were not Amtrak employees.
If you want to know why you can not see a couple of the larger pictures go to this website as this will not happen next year we were there at the end, excuse the pun.

You may not have heard of a guy called Willard Wigan, who is a modelling genius, except that you cannot see his models except through a powerful microscope! Imagine a scupture of Henry the 8th and his six wives all sculptured inside the eye of a needle and you get the idea. Just look up Willard Wigan Miniature Sculptures on the web.

I think it's slightly weird, but then I suppose it's only what modellers / model engineers do, taken to the extreme.
A couple of pages I found about Willard Wigan: Includes a short video, Titanic.
Lionsmeet was held this year at the Butterley Park Miniature Railway. Right next to the track is the "West Shed" where The Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust stable and repair some of the finest locomotives in preservation (when they're not out hauling trains): Duchess of Sutherland, Princess Margaret Rose and two BR Standard Class 4 Tank Locos.
